Farres Cosmetic Review

Okay, I am about to lose my mind!! Why? My dear friend, who lives in Russia, sent me a few products from one of the top cosmetic companies they use in the USSR…  I really never heard of Farres Cosmetics so, I had to do a little research on the company.  The Farres Cosmetic Company has been established since 2006 in China, and they focus on low cost, high quality, fashion, true-color, and pigmentation and being a company that does no animal testing.  Awesome!!

Now that we have all of the formal information out of the way, I have got to tell you about the 5 different eyeshadow palettes she sent me.  I am a pure lover of vintage style, so just the case alone caught my full attention.  They used the 50’s pinup girls, and each one is more alluring than the next… I know you want to see the packaging, I won’t make you wait any longer:

Yesss!!  Aren’t they too cute for words?  I mean, look at the covers they catch your attention immediately, plus they make you want to try them out.  Each palette cover says nude on the front, which kind of makes you think all of them must be basically the same with just one-off in the color scheme.  NOPE!! They are all so very different, and I love the real pigmentation of the colors… You just have to see them:

They are gorgeous, each palette has such depth, and the colors are very complementary to each other.  I couldn’t wait (Show me to my brushes!!)  to try out these fabulous eyeshadows- I decided I wanted to try the Nude Naturals and the Berry Wine, which I wasn’t disappointed in either.  There was minimal fall out in the pan when I placed my brushes in the product, and the colors were highly pigmented, and I noticed you didn’t have to over swirl the brush to pick up the product.  They went on very smooth and blended beautifully… I’d say if I had to rate these shadows, I would give them 5 out of 5 stars, and you KNOW I don’t hand out stars that easily.

I was also told by my dear friend that the brand isn’t sold in the US but, more so in Europe, Russia, China, Ukraine, and there is a website for Farres located at farres.cn I’m honestly blown away by them, and I hope I will be able to find more of the products… I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback regarding our product review.

Extra shots that I took of the pallets:

Foundation-Which to Choose

f5cc7503d2f55756f4daa0bf564790f0I know many of you find this to be one of the most difficult selections in the makeup process.  This can be a very daunting task, so I’m here to help you navigate through the myriad of choices.

None of these are in any particular order, so with that being stated I guess we should jump right into this:

Liquid Foundation: These usually come in bottles and tubes.  The coverage can range from super sheer to full.  Now personally, I love the texture, and liquid foundations are easy to blend and the coverage can be built gradually.  My personal favorite liquid foundation that I use and even use on many of my clients is from Too Faced Cosmetics “Born This Way.”  It’s oil-free, medium-to-full coverage, and its infused with some good stuff like: coconut water (aids in replenishing skins moisture levels).  My foundation color is Warm Beige but it comes in 35 shades for a flawless match and perfect finish.

Cream Foundation: Are great for achieving the dewy look *side note: some liquids can produce the same effect.*  Cream foundations usually come in compacts and jars and work best on dry skin- Meaning your primer needs that time to really set.  Now this is my personal professional opinion, *I feel cream foundations tend to have a slightly heavier texture.*  Cream foundations also provide higher coverage compared to liquid foundations.  TIP: When you’re working with cream foundations remember to apply sparingly, as a little goes a long way.

p433526-av-01-zoomCream-to-Powder Foundation: Unlike cream foundations, cream-to-powder foundations actually dry to a powdery finish-  TIP: Cream-to-Powder Foundation works great for slightly oily or slightly dry skin.  The creamy texture hydrates the skin and prevents it from drying while the powder absorbs excess sebum (this is a light oily substance that secreted from the sebaceous glands, that keep the skin moisturized).

To me cream-to-powder foundations create matte look, and are good for people with combination skin.

Mineral Foundation: They are made out of crushed minerals extracted from the earth and are free of preservatives, talc, oil, fragrance, and other harmful chemicals.  Now many of my clients ask me if mineral foundations are better for them?  This is it, mineral makeup won’t clog your pores because, it doesn’t contain talc, which helps most foundations to stay on the surface of the skin-  It’s really more about how you like the coverage.  With this being stated, mineral foundations usually come in loose powder form and provide medium to high coverage.  Mineral foundations are good for people with very sensitive skin or those who suffer from acne or rosacea.

5081179There is a downside of mineral makeup, is that they might be a little too dry for those with dry skin.  Something else about mineral makeup is that you have to get the right brush, and it does take practice to master the basic “swirl, tap, and buff’ process.

Here are two kinds of brushes that you may select from but, you may like a fluffier type from a certain brand which may give the coverage and application you’re looking for:

Here it is makeup lovers, there are several different kind of foundations, and the best advice is trial and error and having a one-on-one consultation with a skilled makeup artist with a knowledge of color-theory, will lessen the guess work.

To Prime or Not to Prime

Listen, I know how many of you are wondering should you prime before applying your makeup or shouldn’t you prime?   Here it is in a nutshell, all of us makeup artist will tell you it is very important that you prime your canvas (your face), prior to applying anything to your skin.

Think about it like this, if you were getting ready to paint your walls in your home, you would first need to prime them so the paint would go on smooth and it would cover any flaws…  Much like a primer, it does the something, where it camouflages any of the imperfections on your skin like fine lines or wrinkles.

You see how flawless my makeup looks?  Like I said much of it starts with the way we prime and in my last post I told you all about my skincare regimen, which leads into the process…  Let’s talk about the reasons why makeup artists such as myself use primers for our clients as well as for ourselves.  Primers are applied to the face and sit for about 30 seconds before your foundation on clean, moisturized skin to create a barrier between your skin and your natural oils and your makeup.

My goto primer is from E.L.F. Cosmetics, Poreless Putty PrimerThis primer smoothes the skin and preps it with Squalane (Squalane- It balances oil production, providing just enough moisture to keep the skin clear and healthy.  Squalane oil also has powerful anti-aging properties and will help the skin age gracefully as well as anti-inflammatory benefits to help with skin conditions such as acne and eczema).

Don’t skip this step it’s very important in making your foundation last all day.  This is our little secret that I just let you in on.  Why our makeup looks just applied after a long day of being on set, running meetings, meeting clients, and errands you name it we still look as if we just applied our makeup.

I will also tell you there are different types of Primers for skin-types.  I have a few in my makeup bag that I love, one that is a goto for my clients with oily skin is E.L.F. Beautifully Bare Luminous Matte Makeup Primer.  It brightens and plumps with Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen (gives a radiant, glowing complexion),  I also use the Matte Putty Primer it mattifies skin with Kaolin (is a clay mineral) Clay and White Charcoal (Perfect for those who want a shine-free matte complexion).

Now one last thing I want to leave you with HOW TO APPLY PRIMER: The best way to apply primer is with your fingers, its the best and easiest way to blend everything and get a seamless finish.  “A makeup brush will just drag the primer around.”  If you don’t really like to touch your skin with your fingers or you’re a germophobe, you can always use a slightly damp Beautyblender sponge.  Like I stated before, you need to allow your facial primer to dry for about 30 seconds, before layering anything on top in order to avoid disturbing the makeup.  TIP:  With any primer make sure it’s applied in a small dime-to-nickel-size amount and it’s fully blended in.

Try out a few see how they work for you and if you feel they don’t help, it may mean you just haven’t found the right facial primer for your skin type.

Natural Skincare

Many times we seek out products that we think will make our skin feel and look healthy, but in fact, we are doing the exact opposite.  I, for one, know this to be true from years of working with clients and teaching them proper skincare for their particular skincare needs.

I know for me my skin is super sensitive, and I make the joke that if you think of touching my face, it automatically reacts… LOL!! I am asked daily what do I use on my skin, and how do I keep it so healthy?  Ladies, I’m going to be 100% upfront with you “I am that all-natural skincare kind of girl.”

What does that mean?  Most of my skincare regiment is found right in your kitchen.  Yup, you heard me correctly, it is found in your kitchen.  My first line of skincare is none other than H2O.

That’s correct; you read that right, it is water.  I mean, most people don’t realize how important it is for healthy skin to have enough hydration, and that starts within.  Your skin is an organ one of the largest, with cells made up primarily of water; so when it is deprived of water, it suffers.  With all that being stated it is important that you set for yourself a daily water intake schedule.  I personally drink about 52fl. oz of water per day, starting my day off with an 8oz glass of room temperature bottled water.

Now let’s get into my skin regiment – if you’d like to receive more of my tips you should follow our Instagram page at www.instagram.com/lapazimageing

The most effective way that I found to remove my makeup was to use a facial oil, but over the counter, facial oils irritated my skin; so I decided I would use pure olive oil.  Yes, olive oil it’s a natural emollient, which breaks down makeup and even melts away the toughest of mascara.  I use a dampened makeup remover cloth to remove my makeup once it’s broken down.

From this point, I like to make up my natural facial scrub more things you’ll find in your pantry.  Cornmeal and honey, yes cornmeal and honey- is a natural exfoliant and makes your skin feel exuberant… Here is how I make up the scrub:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the cornmeal, honey, and water.  Let it sit for about 2 minutes so the cornmeal absorbs the liquid.
  2. Gently massage your face and neck with the scrub
  3. Leave it for about 1 minute and then rinse it off with warm water

What you need:

  • 1/2 Tbs. Cornmeal
  • 1 Tbs. Honey
  • A bit of Water

Now you may or may not know how important it is to moisturize your skin.  This is such an important step that you do not need to skip at any time- Your skin needs to stay supple, which will help in warding off wrinkles, dry spots, and breakouts.  Let’s head back to my kitchen for the moisturizer I like to whip up a little bit of honey, olive oil, and lemon:

  1. In a small bowl combine all the ingredients and mix
  2. Apply to your face and neck making sure to massage up and out
  3. Allow the mixture to sit on your face for about 20 minutes, at this point I love to use my Nano Ionic Facial Steamer.  Then I use my makeup cloth to remove the product from my face to reveal glowing beautiful skin

What you need:

  • 1 Tbs. Honey
  • 1 Tbs. Olive Oil
  • A Squeeze of Lemon (a Natural skin brightener)

My final step is something that is just so healthy for your skin and it is natural, safe, clean herbal skincare, that is never tested on animals.  This product is one of the leading cosmetics and it is SMD Cosmetics Saromae Snail Serum Concentrate.  This product makes your skin glow because it is a natural hydrating solution.  This is a powerful natural herbal medicinal formulation that boosts cell regeneration and cell turnover.  The President of SMD Cosmetics understands the struggles of healthy skin and her journey to developing a product so excellent was driven from her own personal experience with issues of skin problems…  I had the great pleasure of meeting her a few years back during StyleCon NY and just to hear her story and the journey was powerful and I knew I wanted to try a product that promised to deliver so much, even for someone that has incredibly sensitive skin.  I can honestly say that I’ve fully endorsed this product have given it to my clients and family members to use and not one person has said anything different and they keep replenishing their personal supply.

For a limited time, SMD Cosmetics is hosting a very special offer of 50% off with code: SMDMOTHER50 make sure you take advantage of this offer while it last at www.smdcosmetics.com

I am looking forward to hearing what you all think of the product and I hope you love it as much as we do!!

Year-end Wrap-Up

Year end

Wow! Can you believe we’re about to close-out 2019 and usher in another year?  I mean it seems like we just launched into our year and it is now 2020.  With this being stated, we thought we would take a look back at our year here at LaPaz.  We kicked off our 2019 year with something different and inspirational for our stunning followers, which was  “Inspirational Tuesday’s,” that has been received with incredible feedback and positivity:

PhotoGrid_1572962465308 We didn’t know this would lead to such incredible interviews, speaking engagements and so much more.  From here we moved into our Lapazimageing Styling Sessions, where we imparted valuable information regarding dressing your body-type, style inspirations and do and don’ts:

We are on such a roll that we moved forward and landed a stunning partnership with a very talented Nail artist, by the name of Lida (unfortunately we’re no longer with).  This collaboration gave birth to some stunning creations that kept people talking and wanting more.

Crossing over in the new year we have a new nail salon home and stunning artist named Chrissy or Chrissy’s Woodhaven Nail Salon.  You thought Sonya LaRae’s nails were gorgeous well let’s just say she has totally up’d her nail game:

Now let’s move on to some of the fabulous brands that we partnered with and Sonya became one of the best brand ambassadors any company could ask for.  We have the pleasure of collaborating with Clean Skin Club- an organic, vegan and cruelty-free company.  These products are fabulous and have excellent benefits for your skin, the best part of our partnership we’ve secured you a 20% discount by using our code LaPaz01 at CleanSkinClub

Then we thought you all,  also needed makeup that is just as fabulous and stunning as all of our amazing LaPazions!  That lead to a great partnership with Mellow Cosmetics.  Again, Sonya LaRae launched into a full out campaign seeing if the products were as good as the claims that the company was making.  Well, she LOVED the products and again thinking about you all secured an amazing 15% discount, which you can get by using code: Mellow15 at MellowCosmetics

We also still brought attention to one of the most important charities to our entire team, which is The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Team Lapazimageing raised well over $30,000.00 in the memory of our President/CEO-(Sonya) two nieces Desiree and Eleanor, that passed away exactly 9 months apart, from AML.  Our continued dedication moved our team to participate in Light the Night- Please donate any amount www.lls.org

From here we just kept the energy moving from NYFW, PFW, MFW, LFW and not to mention the Grammy’s, NFL Awards, The Makeup Show, Lion King premier, Independent Fashion Awards,  product launches and so much more:

This year has been amazing, unbelievable and beyond our expectations.  We lost an icon in the fashion industry, Mr. Karl Lagerfeld, which was truly a major blow.  We also lost our fur-baby Domingo, our Presidents boy who brought such joy to everyone that met him:

We thank you all for being so supportive, and always encouraging us to reach higher heights.  We look forward to our continued partnerships, new partnerships, collaborations and much more.

From our amazing President/CEO- Ms. Sonya LaRae and all of us here at LaPaz, we wish you all continued success in everything!
